Damn the Inland Empire

who came up with that name anyways?? INLAND EMPIRE...well yes ladies and gents..it sucks I know..but well it's nice and the rent is not soo bad. Sure, we lack the culture, the great food at every corner, and all the OUT people. but that is what my 1 hour drives on the weekends to long beach/LA are for.

Well, I've been on the forever journey of promoting my Oct 8th show..leaving flyers at diffrent galleries, schools, coffee shops, etc. I found out thru the wonderful world of MySpace that there is a new 'gay' coffee shop in Rancho Cucamonga. GREAT! I thought mabey this is the place where I can start doing shows and bringing queer art/artists into the light to this world that only knows OASIS as it's only form of gay entertainment. So, I go after work and check it out. It's a cute set up. I speak with the owner to see if it's ok to leave some of my flyers at their counter. She looks uneasy at the flyer and states that it's a little too 'risque' and that she would need to speak with her business partner about it. I'm thinking 'are you fricken kidding??' queer art...queer coffee shop..sure you're in Rancho, but come on. You are marketing yourself as a queer establishment...how much more 'risque' can you be in the IE..but alas, I digress. Today I spoke to a friend who has a shop in Claremont (she happens to be queer as well) and I was telling her about the unfortunate events. She agreed with me that you can't 'halfway' do queer. I'm glad someone agrees with me.

I don't know if I will frequent that establishment again. As much as I like to patronize queer establishments, I don't know if I can patronize one who is doing it 'halfway' .
