Things that turn me on.....yummm

Because there are some things that only a Queer mujer knows how to pull off...

Swagger:
Swagger is the confidence exuded as a reflection of ones dress, shoe game, attitude and how one handles a situation.

For example:
"You can learn how to dress just by
Jocking my fresh
Follow my steps, it's the road to success. Where the N* know you thorough and the girls say YES. But, I can't teach you my swag, You can pay for school but you can't buy class. School of hard knocks, I'm a grad. And that all-blue Yankee is my Graduation cap"

Visible: A Femmethology, Vol 1 and 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2/23/2009

Visibile: A Femmethology, Volumes One and Two

Edited by Jennifer Clare Burke

Price: U.S. $19.95

Volume One ISBN-10: 0-9785973-4-6

Volume One ISBN-13: 978-0-9785973-4-4
Volume Two ISBN-10: 0-9785973-5-4
Volume Two ISBN-13: 978-0-9785973-5-1

"Femmethology is essential—a roadmap of Femme Nation, an index, an anthropology, a manifesto, and a googleology." - Dorothy Allison, Bastard Out of Carolina

"I feel like I just ate stars, my body and its gender readjusting to the supernova questions, queries, answers, and truths in these pages. I am so grateful for this book - as a transman, as a femme, but mostly as a human being who values femininity, good writing, and the powerful brilliance that shines at the intersection of both." - Scott Turner Schofield, Two Truths and a Lie

"[Visible: A Femmethology] is an absolute tribute to the depth and power of Femme. In these essays, you will see Femmes explode the idea of Femme on many levels, both in personal and public spaces. These pieces insist that Femme is a position of self-empowerment, that being Femme is about finding one's voice and being unafraid to use that voice in radical ways." - Christina De La Rosa, Conference Chair of Femme 2008, and Jessica Eve Humphrey, Conference Coordinator of Femme 2008

Homofactus Press proudly announces that Visible: A Femmethology, the only two-volume anthology devoted to femme identity, is coming in March. Visible: A Femmethology calls the LGBTQI community on its prejudices and celebrates the diversity of individual femmes. Award-winning authors, spoken-word artists, and new voices come together to challenge conventional ideas of how disability, class, nationality, race, aesthetics, sexual orientation, gender identity and body type intersect with each contributor's concrete notion of femmedom.

Visible: A Femmethology is the latest work from Homofactus Press, a publishing house dedicated to creating complex works for complicated people.

Publisher Jay Sennett is thrilled with Burke's book: "This collection is already the talk of the femme community, and it's worth every bit of the attention it's receiving and then some!"

Burke: "As a queer femme, I was reassured and relieved by the strong, unique, fearless, complex viewpoints in these essays. I saw peers who couldn't - and frankly wouldn't - play by any perceived status quo rules for How to be Femme, How to Look Femme, How to Act Femme, and so forth. I found individuals who were just as concerned about disability rights, body politics, transphobia, class differences and biphobia. I found writing that dissects the impact of race and national identity on queer politics as well as the politics of marriage, sex work, sexism and misogyny in our communities. Through editing Femmethology, I realized I wasn't alone."

Jennifer Clare Burke has been editing for academic and business purposes and instructing writing for sixteen years. Jennifer will edit the new edition of Queer Shorts to be released by Homofactus Press in 2001. Her book, A Life Less Convenient: Letters to My Ex, will be re-released by Homofactus Press in 2010.

Ok soooooo how am I soo into music and never knew about Vikter Duplaix? Thanks to Dopegirlfresh (oh and watch for the review I'm gonna do of her AMAZING bath/body products)for turning me on to him. OMG that's all I'm gonna say! DAMN! His music is soo amazing! Mos Def the kind of music that you wanna put on while you're kicking it with your boo (if you know what I mean) I was saying how much I really enjoyed his music to my bff Tashi, and she said that he sometimes has shows here in LA! OMG I really can't wait to go to my first Vikter Duplaix party!!! I will dance all night long (and hopefully by then, the boo will be there with me...) I love how the lyrics are sooo sensual, and the music is very much the kind you just wanna dance with someone to. (mmmmm) So here's his Myspace page www.myspace.com/duplaix and I'll leave you all with some yummy videos. (if baby making ensues, or at least the trying of it, don't blame me *giggle*)

Not F'n Cool

I give mad props to Feministe for posting this on the site:

On the subject of a certain very popular entertainment blog posting a photo of Rihanna after she was allegedly assaulted by Chris Brown: Not Fucking Cool.

On the subject of reposting said photo on other blogs: Not Fucking Cool.

On the subject of linking to said photo on other blogs: Not Fucking Cool.

On the subject of TV stations also running said photo: Not Fucking Cool.

On the subject of the LAPD’s “oopsie!” letter (pdf) in response to the leaking of the photo, as though it makes a difference now: Not Fucking Cool.

And yes, on the subject of people who have not seen the photo on their own now actively seeking it out, due to this post or one like it? Even as I understand that our most base instincts can get the best of us? Please, just don’t. If you haven’t already, just don’t. Because that’s not fucking cool either.

On the subject of all of this: Just Stop It.

It’s bad enough that her name was released, when it should not have been. This woman was clearly attacked, in what is very strongly believed to be an intimate partner violence incident. She is dealing with more than enough, and more than she or any other woman should ever have to deal with. Every woman deserves some sense of privacy in a situation like this, no matter how famous she is. Every woman in this situation deserves our support.

And every woman in this situation should get to decide for herself how public she wants to be about it, and whether or not she is portrayed in this way. Not you. Not me. Not some stupid entertainment website that clearly just wants to make a profit. Just her. Her, and only her.

Angie Evans

Hey Everyone,
I'm sooo excited to see Angie Evans again in concert next weekend! I first started working with Angie Evans at Sappho's Return's first show She Sex at Viento Y Agua Gallery and Coffee house in Long Beach, CA. Her sound is soo amazing. Very R&B/Soul/Folk rolled all into one. I had the honor of being the stage manager for her record release party last year. Her album Cycle of Fruit is good. Amazing music to make out to ;)Anywho...here's the flyer, come out to The Mint to support if you can.

Where I will be on Sunday morning!

Which L Word Character Are You?

Bette

You are not quite schizophrenic, although, you have two distinct sides to your personality. One side is dominated by control and strength; it is conservative and traditional in addition to being empowered by the mind. On the other hand, one side is empowered by the spirit and body. This side craves beauty and the arts. It is fiery and intense but not out of control. It is centered in its liberty. You can fairly be called unique. You are distinct, a leader, unmatchable, a true Venus.

The hour long live show is originally composed/edited by TERA "NOVA JADE* GREENE and written/choreographed by MARISSA ALMA NICK ... together, they are known as RHYMES WITH ORANGEz.
"Take A Walk In My Shoes" presents itself as a comedic satire set amidst the illusions of a dream & driven by a simple Mailman gone hopelessly astray. ***RELEASEEEEEE****

Oh Lawd...I've been wanting to post this for a couple of weeks now. I've felt like I haven't had the time. I've been so consumed lately by the pouring of gifts from the Universe (Thank you Universe!)

So, If you've read my blog, you know that I've had issues letting go of 'hir'. Things ended just as crazy and quickly as they started. I never was able to get closure.

Well

A couple of nights ago, the much needed closure came to me in the form of a dream...

Cut to:

A restaurant. I was having dinner with friends.

She walks up to our table, says hello to my friends. At that time, I notice that hir voice is deeper than usual, I look up and notice hir hair super short, wearing mens clothes, hir body is different than the body I made love to...

She walked up to say hi to all my friends, then came to me and said 'Laura, I need to talk to you' She pulled me to the side. "I'm sorry for hurting you. I'm sorry of everything I put you thru, I want to ask for your forgiveness.'

In my dreams, by hearing the things that she would NEVER (because of hir stubbornness) utter, I got closure.

To Hir

I release any negative memories of you to the Universe. I will only remember the good ones. I wish you well on your journey. May it be bliss full.

*Namaste*
