p.s.

soooo
I'm on countdown mode!!!!!!!!!!!! And, I have a goal. So, I think that I should share the goal on my blog so that I will be held more acountable to myself.

After Dinah, I have 5 weekends before a weeklong Vacay!!! I will be hosting some out of town guests and want to show them a really good time here in LA! So what does that mean? That means tightening the belt! One whole week of going clubbing, bar hopping, dinners etc is going to be pretty expensive...soo I have decided ::drumroll please:: to NOT go out from the moment I come back from Dinah untill my guests arrive.
Yes, it will be hard, but I know I can do it! So I guess I will be blogging more and working on crafts at home...LOL

wish me luck!

*muah*

My Dinah Shore....

Hey Everyone,
Well, it's that time again, time for all the les ladies to make the trek to the Desert for Dinah Shore! I will once again partake of this event, of which I have mixed feelings about....The 'traditional' Dinah Shore experience is one that, I guess, everyone should do once in their life. What is the 'traditional' Dinah experience, you ask..well it involves model thin women (with almost NO WOC representation) frolicking poolside while heavily intoxicated, hooking up with ladies that you don't even know (and being so drunk that you use NO protection), spending 90 dollars for the white party where there will be one headlining act, no room to dance, and spending 14 bucks on a drink. Sound Jaded? Well I am a bit I guess. This was the 'cool thing' to do when I first came out years ago, but now, I'm older and would rather spend over 1K for 3 days of Dinah (once you include Hotel, food, parties, drinks) doing something else, like, oh idk..maybe Going on a trip that has cultural significance...whatever...I guess you have to do it once....

Thank GOODNESS for me, there are companies that cater to us WOC!!!! I have the pleasure of, once again, working for Lucy and Gail this year (I will be the VIP/Greenroom manager this year) Check out their event schedule for this year:

Why do I love Lucy and Gail (Dinah in Color)? Well not only do I love working with them on a professional level, but I also love that they cater to women that look like me. I can sunbathe near the pool and not feel like I'm morbidly obese. I can look up and see other WOC having conversations about amazing things such as art and politics (but still in a party atmosphere). I'm very excited to be able to be in Palm Springs for Dinah and have a relaxing time, with no feelings of inadequacy that come with having a 'Traditional' Dinah Experience!

I'm also VERY excited about going to Out and About's Scandalous II event which will feature non other than GOAPELE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhh I'm soo excited, honestly, I will be working 2 of the 4 days that I'll be in Palm Springs, so, I'm really just looking forward to relaxing, soaking up the sun, and just being in community with other WOC!!!!!

So, there you have it people, MY Dinah Experience.
I'll post pictures when I come back... *muah*

Birthday Week!!!

OMG I'm going to be 31 on Thurs! I can't even believe it! I've been soo busy (in a good way) that I haven't even been able to feel like it's REALLY my bday :(
I had a Pisces BBQ on March 1st because there are about 5 of us Pisces in our circle of friends. This is my actual Birthday week...so here are the things that are coming up...

Wed: Birthday Luncheon at Work (I choose a Mexican Restaurant...we'll see how that goes)

Thurs: The actual day of my birthday. I curated a show for Hector Silva at the Kyoto Grand Hotel in Downtown LA for the LA Art Walk. I am so very proud of this. And it's gonna be on my birthday! The manifestations that I've been working on have come to fruition...Art and Me!

Friday: Took the day off work. Gonna take care of some things in the AM and then my Bday party at Plei. I'm so excited! It should be fun!

Saturday:
There's going to be this HUGE queer event over at USC "GenderPlay
in lesbian culture" (see flyer below) BdP are performing (and yeah look at the pic of Maddow on the flyer) Here's a little tidbit about the show:
GenderPlay
in lesbian culture

Exhibit opening – Saturday, March 14th - 3pm - 6pm
With singer & boi-wonder Phranc & performance art from Latina trio Butchlalis de Panochtitlan.

L.A.’s first-ever exhibition that explores gender and its boundaries and the changing nature of lesbian identity. Discover cross-dressers and tobacco-chewers of the American Civil War and the Wild West, stone butches, high femmes, and kiki's of the 1950s through the Lesbian Feminist 1970s to queers, bois, and20trans people of today.
See how ‘passing’ gave opportunity and language to women’s sexuality – from the Revolutionary War to genderqueer today. GenderPlay challenges our labels, asks us to re-think our stereotypes, and looks at how lesbians define ourselves & what turns us on.
All re-mixed with vintage photos, archival docs, film clips, and historic first person accounts.

ONE Archives Gallery & Museum
626 N. Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood CA 90069
(Gallery Entrance on El Tovar)

Produced by LEX - the Lesbian Exploratorium Project & ONE Gay&Lesbian Archives,
co-sponsored by Christopher Street West/LA Pride

Sunday:
I'm going to a Spa party at my friends house. Then I'm going to try to relax..

Relax
What is that? I've been going, going, going...

It's ok. I can sleep when I'm dead. Now is the time to be a fab femme queer socialite!!!

Kisses

I saw this last night on YouTube. Perfect! Thank you Universe for allowing me to let go!
'Not sure of how my most difficult degree might serve me, but think one day I'll thank him (hir) for reminding me how FIERCE a pupil of life I really am.'

To Hir: The day has come. I Thank You for remiding me how FIERCE a pupil of life I really am!
