I love reading about her process and I think her aesthetic is just wonderful! I do admit that I have seen a LOT of other artists doing the type of work that she does, but for some reason I am just drawn to her work.

How many of us wear the one shoulder style dresses/tops? Raise your hand.. Ok check this beauty out:

Remember the part at the beginning, where I said that her collection also tugged at my heart strings? Well all I'll say is that I can just imagine my future wife while pregnant wearing this ring, infusing our not-yet-born childing with pride for the Mother Land. *excuse me while I sigh*

So, today for my Luna's Lust List Lunes we're gonna feature Ms. Garner of the FABULOUS blog "A Curvy Girl's Guide to Style" my Luna's Lust List item for this week is her newly released book:

I recently discovered the "Fatshion" blog world (I know I'm late) and Ms. Garner's blog was one of the first Fatshion blogs that I started to follow and I was totally drawn into her taste and sense of style and FABULOUSNESS! Not only is her blog informative, fun and fashionable, but she's also one of the only Fatshion bloggers that seems down to earth and accessible to her readers. I follow her on Twitter (@GarnerStyle) and seem to notice that she doesn't just "stick to" conversing with other Fatshion bloggers, but is open and interactive with all her other followers! I can't wait to get my hands on this book (you can purchase the book on her blog or Amazon.com)! Keep your eye out also for an interview with Ms. Garner on Creative Xicana about her book and overall FABULOUSNESS!!

Weaving personal stories through poetry, music, comedy and video, D’Lo also presents a parade of characters, real and imaginary. These diverse, flawed characters come to share their stories – exploring contradictions of existing in America where one’s immigrant traditions and culture are constantly challenged; battling against ignorance, even in friendships and relationships; and finally, reflecting stories of love that show D’Lo’s belief that “you can’t call yourself a revolutionary if you have a problem being nice.”

Really I do. And so many cute things are coming up for Spring/Summer JUST in time for my trip to Vegas with my honey and our friends to celebrate her birthday!!!

I've gone on the pre-requisite trips to Ross and also have found some cute things at Target AND even got a GREAT deal on a Dress at Macy's during the Friends and Family Sale!

HOWEVER....

I'm lusting after this lovely find from minimalista clothing on ETSY :

It might not be your usual super sexy Vegas wear, but I can just imagine myself wearing this with some sandals walking down the strip with my girl/boi at my side and a drink in my hand and the sun shining down on my bare shoulders *a girl can dream, can't she?*

I love all the things in the minimalista clothing shop! I'm even tempted to get a T shirt for Jess of Audre Lorde..she would love that.

What do you guys think?

Who's that girl?!

If you didn't watch SNL this past Saturday (and judging by Twitter, there weren't many people who didn't. SNL trended HIGHER than Justin Bieber!!!) you REALLY need to watch it. It was so hilarious! (Betty White KILLED IT)

HOWEVER......

Y'all need to know that I was really watching for Hov. Seriously, Jay-Z is so redic. Look at him! He just exudes some amazing sexual energy!

p.s. 10 points to the person who can tell me who designs the jacket that Hov has on in the video below.

Watch the video HERE

So while 'queer girl' drooling over Hov, I noticed the beautiful (or as I called her on Twitter Bangs, Boobies, Booty) girl that sand 'Empire State of Mind' with Hov. After some research (aka asking people on Facebook) I found out that the young lady is none other than Bridget Kelly. Apparently, she's been touring with Hov..

DORA MAGANA: Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Dora Magaña spent much of her childhood and adolescence in Guatemala where she began writing poetry at an early age, winning her first poetry contest when she was 13, in 1974. In 1976, she returned to her native El Salvador where her
profound sense of social justice in the face of military dictatorships, political assassinations, persecution and the elimination of unions or any worker’s associations led her to join the student protest movement. For this she was imprisoned at age 18 in 1980. Upon her release she joined the armed resistance, where she fought from 1981-1992, before migrating to Los Angeles and pursuing studies in health sciences. While working at Clinica Msr. Oscar A. Romero, she simultaneously earned first a Bachelors degree at Cal State LA and then a Masters at UCLA. Poetry, she says, has been a life long creative constant for her.

In 2010, she was awarded second place in the “La Luciernaga”
international poetry contest for her poem “The Masacre at Calabozo,” a
poem included in her recently published book, ALBUM TO LOVE YOU MY
COUNTRY II. Her collection of poems was written, she adds, to rescue
the memories of trade unionists, campesinos and students alongside
whom she shared profound experiences with struggle, love, commitment
and the elaboration of a better future through organization and
resistance.

Corazon Del Pueblo
2003 E. 1st St.
Los Angeles 90033

Corazon Del Pueblo is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit collective, and community cultural center, that promotes peace, social justice and cultural understanding through the arts, education and social action. We are focused on providing a space for artists and activists to perform, teach and organize in the working-class community of Boyle Heights.

And some tips, including the 5 principles of non-violence from the people over at Cuentame

In defiance of the new bill in Arizona and in support of the Arizona citizens who will face harassment every time they step out their doors, the call is out for everyone to ask the question: "Do I look "illegal?" during the week of May 1st to May 8th. The focus is on raising awareness on the day of May 1st but by the overwhelming response, putting out this message is extending for the rest of the week.

Post the question as your status on Facebook. Throughout the day, send the question out on Twitter. Ask one another the question, "Do I look illegal?" Hopefully, this will get all of us thinking and discussing what exactly does "illegal" look like..

Finally, wear shirts, buttons or hold signs saying, "Do I look 'illegal'?" and take pictures to either send to Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona and/or post them here..

her mailing address is:
Jan Brewer
Governor of Arizona
1700 West Washington
Phoenix, Arizona 85007

NEW INFO: If you're in SF, there will be the usual May Day March supporting immigrant workers. This year the protest will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2010, assembling at noon at 24th and Mission streets in San Francisco, joining other May Day protests in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and many other cities. Show up, wear your Do I Look 'Illegal?' shirts, buttons etc..

This idea was initially from my roommate over a conversation the other night. Then I saw that a t-shirt was being sold that had the same message. So it made sense to take it a next step and share the idea of a "Do I Look 'Illegal?'" Day with my FB family and friends..

If you want to pursue other nonviolent civil disobedience actions, please remember these important guidelines from the teachings of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. :

Five Principles of Nonviolence
1. Respect everyone – including yourself. It is a cardinal principle in nonviolence not to confuse people with the things they are doing. In fact, the more you can respect a person the more effectively you can persuade her or him to change attitudes or behavior. Never use humiliation as a tool — or accept humiliation from others — as that degrades everyone. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (MLK, Jr.)

2. “Means are ends in the making” – Nonviolent means always lead to positive, constructive results – though not always the ones we intended. Violent means never lead to constructive ends. We do not have, nor are we expected to have control over the final results of our actions. We have and must take responsibility for the means we use, including even our feelings and the state of our mind as we use them. It will be found that violence sometimes “works” (i.e., accomplishes an immediate, short-term goal) but it never works (i.e., makes things better or adds constructive energy to the system). By contrast, nonviolence sometimes “works” and always works. It will always produce a good result at some point down the road, even though we may not quite see the connection.

3. Seek win/win solutions – Give priority to building relationships over short-term “victories.” Conflict makes us feel that in order for me to “win,” you have to lose. That is a delusion. In nonviolence we do not seek to be winners, or rise over others; we seek to learn and to make things better for all (see below).

4. Persuade, don’t coerce – Be prepared to take on suffering if there is no other way to awaken another’s conscience. It is good to petition for grievances, but nonviolence really does its work when our petitions have been ignored and it is necessary, as Gandhi said, to “not only speak to the head but move the heart.” And we can do this by accepting rather than inflicting the suffering inherent in the system. In the real world there is not always time to, for example, persuade a dictator to step down: coercion may be required by the simple economy of suffering. Nonetheless, we aim for persuasion whenever possible because those changes are permanent (and more respectful of the person).

5. Use discrimination – Never sacrifice your principles, but be ready to change tactics or compromise on details. Don’t cling to symbols. Be constructive wherever possible and obstructive when necessary. Gandhi’s greatest discovery was the power of ‘constructive programme’ by which the Indians took charge of their own society and showed themselves and the British that the latter were not needed. Episodes of Satyagraha (in this case, active resistance), though much more dramatic, actually only punctuated the long, slow process of self-regeneration he lead. Moreover, all of constructive programme and Satyagraha dealt with concrete realities (real salt, for example) and only incidentally with signs and symbols.

As you can see, these principles arise from — and help to sustain — a belief that all life is an interconnected whole and that any problem can be solved once its real nature is understood. In other words, once we understand our real needs we will find that they are not in competition with any others’. In fact, as Martin Luther King said, “I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”
